To Mark III or not to Mark III? That is the question

I’ve been pondering lately an upgrade to the new Canon Mk III. I have been slowly entering the world of DSLR Cinematography and the qualities of the Mark III especially when it comes to low light shooting are very attractive. So as a first step I started entering some giveaways because the only thing better than a Canon 5D Mk III is a free Canon 5D Mk III!

Big thanks to the SnapKnot wedding photography directory for offering this great camera giveaway!

I will be doing a comparison as soon as I can get my hands on one. Stay tuned!

Earthquake in Virginia!

We just had an earthquake in Virginia. House was shaking for about 5-7 seconds. Looks like a 5.8. More info here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/at00lqe6x3.php

Dance photography is my new black!

Dance photographyA few days ago, I was lucky enough to steal some time to shoot a friend who is a amazing dancer, Dita. She tirelessly run and jumped and did all the dance moves I can’t pronounce, while I fumbled with my camera trying to catch her at the right moment.

Beyond ending up with some not-too-shaby shots, I found out that I love shooting dancers. If you are a dancer and want portfolio shots, let me know!

Thank you Dita for being such a good and tireless sport! I also wanted to thank the people at One Dulles Corridor who generously offered their space for my photographic endeavors.

Take a look at a gallery of dance photos here. photocrati gallery

Singer shoot

I recently had the opportunity and joy to shoot Canda (http://www.listentocanda.com/) a very talented singer and voice coach. She had a disposition matching her  beautiful voice and it was a real pleasure shooting her while I listened to her sing. Doesn’t get more fun than that!

Flashbus tour

So the much anticipated Flashbus tour event is done and I’m of two minds about it. I really liked David Hobby; his presentation was flowing, interesting and all in all met my expectations.

Joe McNally though… I was disappointed, plain and simple. I would assume (with all that it entails) that being more than half way through the tour, the presenters would have their stuff down and worked all kinks out. Hence I was unpleasantly surprised when Joe looked unprepared, slightly chaotic, without clear focus.

I think the world of him as far as photography goes but presenting and sharing knowledge is a different skill-set; one that he may not posses?

Overall a good time; a lot of people and I will definitely try to go to the next strobist event/seminar etc.
